The following page describes actions taken during 2017 regarding multilateral treaties.

On October 23, 2017, the Republic of  Argentina deposited the instrument of ratification to the Inter-American Convention on Protecting the Human Rights of Older Persons, at the OAS headquarters, in Washington, D.C. United States. The instrument contains some declarations.

On October 12, 2017, Uruguay deposited the instrument of ratification to the Inter-American Convention against Racism, Racial Discrimination and Related Forms of Intolerance at the OAS headquarters, in Washington, D.C. United States.

On August 15, 2017, the Republic of  Chile deposited the instrument of ratification to the Inter-American Convention on Protecting the Human Rights of Older Persons, at the OAS headquarters, in Washington, D.C. United States. The instrument contains some declarations.

On June 26, 2017, Chile informed the depository on the designation of the Office of Direction of International Affairs and Human Rights within the Supreme Court (Dirección de Asuntos Internacionales y Derechos Humanos) as the central authority for the following instruments:
- Inter -American Convention on Letters Rogatory
- Additional Protocol to the Inter-American Convention on Letters Rogatory
- Inter-American Convention on the Taking of Evidence Abroad.

On June 15, 2017, Peru informed the depository on the designation of the Office of Judicial Cooperation (Oficina de Cooperación Judicial) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the central authority for the following instruments:
- Inter -American Convention on Letters Rogatory
- Additional Protocol to the Inter-American Convention on Letters Rogatory
- Inter-American Convention on the Taking of Evidence Abroad.
- Inter-American Convention on support obligations.
- Inter-American Convention on execution of preventive measures.

On May 17, 2017, the Plurinational State of Bolivia deposited with the Department of International Law of the Secretariat for Legal Affairs of the General Secretariat of the OAS in its capacity as depositary, the instrument of ratification to the Inter-American Convention on Protecting the Human Rights of Older Persons, at the OAS headquarters, in Washington, D.C. United States.

On April 28, 2017, the Secretary General of the Organization received a note dated April 27, 2017 from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in which that country expressed its decision to denounce the Charter of the Organization of American States in the terms set forth in the said note.

On April 20, 2017, the Republic of Panama reported on the designation of the "Dirección de Asuntos Jurídicos y Tratados” of the Ministry of External Relations as the central authority for the Inter-American Convention on Serving Criminal Sentences Abroad.

On February 22, 2017, the Convention of Private International Law of 1928, also known as the Bustamante Code, entered into force for the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, as stated by its articles 4 and 6.

On January 23, 2017, the Commonwealth of The Bahamas deposited with the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States the original copy of the instrument of accession to the Convention of Private International Law of 1928, also known as Bustamante Code. The act of accession contains some reservations. The Convention will be in force for The Commonwealth of the Bahamas within the next thirty days, in accordance with its articles 4 and 6.

On January 11, 2017, the Inter-American Convention on Protecting the Human Rights of Older Persons entered into force upon the expiration of thirty days from the date of the deposit of the second instrument of ratification, in accordance with its article 37. Currently, two OAS member states have deposited their respective instrument of ratification to the Department of International Law of the Secretariat for Legal Affairs of the General Secretariat of the OAS, on its capacity as depository, Uruguay on November 18, 2016 and Costa Rica on December 12, 2016.
