The Department of International Law (Secretariat for Legal Affairs) of the OAS is proud to present the publication
XLIV Curso de Derecho Internacional,
which compiles – in essay form – the classes
taught during said Course, held in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil, in August 2017, which included
a broad range of subjects, such as:
-
nationality and statelessness in the case law of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights;
-
digital democratic innovation in the Inter-American System;
-
control of conventionality and constitutionality of foreign law;
-
privacy and protection of personal data; and
-
the prohibition of nuclear weapons, among many others.
The Course on International Law is organized every year by the Department of International Law and the Inter-American Juridical Committee, and represents an opportunity to foster analysis, exchange ideas and generate an open dialogue on currently relevant topics in the field of international law in general, and particularly in the Inter-American System.
The instructors in the Course are among the best jurists and international practitioners in the Americas. From the International Court of Justice and specialized international organizations such as the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), to private practice and the world of academia, experts from around the region have poured their knowledge and experience into the essays that appear in this publication, in the hope that they will constitute a valuable contribution for those who share their interest in these topics.
