The Latin American Electoral Law Portal is a pilot project to systematize judicial rulings on electoral matters. Its aim is to give electoral management bodies, researchers, students, and the general public access to relevant decisions handed down by the region's institutions with jurisdiction in this field.
Spearheaded by the OAS Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation, along with the electoral tribunals of Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Panama, the Latin American Electoral Law Portal grew out of a commitment made during the first meeting of the Working Group of Presidents of Latin American Electoral Tribunals, held on April 13, 2010, in Washington, D.C.
During the first stage, the OAS/DECO is working to define the criteria that will be used and to select the judicial decisions that will be included in the database. This information is expected to be available in the near future. Over the coming months, other electoral management bodies will be invited to participate.
