CHILE AND MEXICO ARE THE FIRST STATES TO PROVIDE CONSENT TO RECEIVE AN ON-SITE VISIT OF THE OAS ANTI-CORRUPTION MECHANISM FOR ITS FIFTH ROUND OF REVIEW

Chile and Mexico are the first States Parties of the Mechanism for Follow-up on the Implementation of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption (MESICIC) that have given their consent to receive on-site visits as part of that Mechanism’s review process for the Fifth Round that will begin in March.

Through their Permanent Missions to the OAS, these two States formally notified the MESICIC Technical Secretariat of this decision in accordance with the Methodology for Conducting On-site Visits. Both States also consented to and received on-site visits for the Fourth Round of Review.

For the Fifth Round, the MESICIC Committee of Experts will review the implementation of the provisions in Article III, paragraphs 3 and 12 of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption, and follow-up on the recommendations formulated to the States Parties in the Second Round, on topics such as public procurement, hiring of public servants, whistleblower protection and the criminalization of acts of corruption under the Convention.

The Technical Secretariat of the MESICIC expects to receive over the coming days similar notifications from other States, which have reported that they are taking the steps needed domestically to formalize their consent.
