  • Energy Week in Grenada

    The OAS joined the Office of Energy Division at the Ministry of Finance, Planning, Economy, Energy and Cooperatives to sponsor the Energy Week in Grenada from November 7-11, 2011 under the theme “Creating a Sustainable Grenada Through Renewable and Efficient Energy Use”.

    The Energy Week was mandated as an annual event resulted from a decision taken at the Thirty-Fifth Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) on Energy held in Georgetown, Guyana on March 22-24, 2011.

    The overall aim of the Energy Week falls under the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Program (CSEP), which aims to educate and sensitize nationals and residents in Grenada and other CARICOM member states on issues relating the use of renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy conservation. CSEP is a joint project funded by the European Union (EU) in partnership with the CARICOM Secretariat, Caribbean Electric Utilities Association (CARILEC) and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP).

    The week of activities in Grenada included a RE Secondary School Project Competition, a National Jingle Competition, the Kill-a-Watt Day, a National Radio Quiz, the creation of public announcements that were broadcasted on radio and television, among other activities.

    “Caribbean Sustainable Energy Program”

    The Organization of American States (OAS) has handed over computer equipment to the Grenada Energy Unit as a part of its commitment to support Caribbean member states of the OAS under the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Programme. The brief handing over ceremony took place on Tuesday October 11th, 2011 at the Ministry of Finance, Financial Complex in St. George’s. The computer equipment donated includes a business notebook computer, a colour LaserJet multifunction printer, and scanjet photo scanner.

    The Rural Tourism Business Labs workshop was held in St George's at the National Development Foundation Grenada July 25 -29, 2011. There were 23 participants, most of whom were tourism related entrepreneurs. The participants included teachers, St George's University students, and employees of both Ministry of Tourism and the Board of Tourism. Local church youth organizations and young entrepreneurs.
