THE SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR FOR FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION WILL VISIT HONDURAS
The Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), Eduardo Bertoni, will hold a visit to the Republic of Honduras, from September 3 rd to September 5th, 2003, to gather information on the situation of freedom of expression in that Central American country and to promote the standards established by the Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights on this particular right.
During his visit, Bertoni will meet with public officials, delegates from civil society organizations and journalists.
On September 3rd, the Rapporteurship will offer a Seminar for journalists and members of civil society activists on: “The Protection of Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the Press in the Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights”.
At the end of his visit, on September 5th , at 2 p.m., Dr. Bertoni will offer a press conference at the Clarion Hotel, in Tegucigalpa, where the delegation of the Rapporteurship will be hosted.
The Rapporteurship for Freedom of Expression was created in 1998 by the IACHR as a permanent office, with functional and budgetary independence, which works under the juridical framework of the Commission.
