Washington, D.C.- The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) published the calendar of public hearings that will take place as part of the 182nd Period of Sessions, which will be held virtually from the 6 to 17 of December 2021. The public hearings will take place from the 13 to the 16 of December.

During the 182nd Period of Sessions, meetings will be held with civil society to receive information on the human rights situation in the countries of the region. These meetings will be held on December 17, 2021, between 2:30 pm and 4 pm (EST). The organizations interested in participating are requested to sign up through this registration form until December 6, 2021, at 23:59 (Washington DC time).

One of the public hearings, is an ex officio hearing: "Progress and challenges in the implementation of the Extraordinary Forensic Identification Mechanism (MEIF) in Mexico", will be held on Wednesday 15 of December at 11 am. The organizations interested in participating are requested to sign up through this registration form until November 28, 2021, at 23:59 (Washington DC time).

Between 7 to 9 December, events of activities and documents of the IACHR, in partnership with other institutions will be held. The registration and further details will be published accordingly.

• Presentation of the repository of jurisprudence of the IACHR, 7 December – 9 am.

• Event on the Inter-American System Impact Observatory, 7 December – 6 pm.

• Event on the Transformative Impact of the Inter-American System, 8 December – 9 am.

• Launch of the principles of academic freedom, 9 December – 6 pm.

In accordance with the provisions of Article 68 of the IACHR Rules of Procedure , the hearings will be public, unless exceptional circumstances justify their privacy. The hearings will broadcast on the Zoom platform and through the IACHR's Facebook , Youtube , and Twitter accounts. Accredited individuals and organizations that require interpretation and subtitles must register for the corresponding hearings on the Zoom platform, whose link can be found in the hearing calendar.

The IACHR will notify the parties in a timely manner of the connection details and security guidelines for the public hearings, working meetings and meetings with civil society that will be held during the 182nd Period of Sessions.

A principal, autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS), the IACHR derives its mandate from the OAS Charter and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Inter-American Commission has a mandate to promote respect for and to defend human rights in the region and acts as a consultative body to the OAS in this area. The Commission is composed of seven independent members who are elected in an individual capacity by the OAS General Assembly and who do not represent their countries of origin or residence.
