Secretary General Receives Spanish Secretary General of Health

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today received the Secretary General of Health of Spain, Pilar Farjas, in his office in Washington D.C.

During the meeting, the two discussed the Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO) 28th Pan American Sanitary Conference, which is being held this week in the city. The Spanish official highlighted the support Spain gives to the programs of PAHO, a health agency that forms part of the Inter American System. She also mentioned her interest in “strengthening bilateral ties with the countries of the Americas”.

Secretary General Insulza thanked Spain for its support to the regional health organization and emphasized “the great job” that PAHO “has been doing since its creation.” He also announced projects dealing with consumption that the organization he directs is working on with its Member Countries.

Also present at the meeting were the Permanent Observer of Spain to the OAS, Ambassador Jorge Hevia, and the OAS Director of the Department of Social Development and Employment, Ana Evelyn Jacsir de Lovo.
