The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Haiti, Pierre Richard Casimir, in the framework of the OAS General Assembly, which is taking place in Antigua, Guatemala.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed the central theme of the Assembly, “For a Comprehensive Policy against the World Drug Problem in the Americas,” the current political situation in the Hemisphere, and the support the OAS gives the Caribbean nation through specific programs and initiatives.

In particular, Foreign Minister Casimir commended the Organization for the assistance it had been providing his country for several years through the civil registry program, “which has benefitted thousands of citizens,” as well as through other programs to further social and democratic development in Haiti.
