The new Permanent Representative of Brazil to the Organization of American States (OAS), Benoni Belli, presented his credentials today to the OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro, during a ceremony held at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC.

Secretary General Almagro stressed that Brazil is a founding country of the OAS that has made "extraordinary contributions" to the inter-American system throughout its history. "Brazil has honored the respect for the principles and values of inter-American institutionality, represented in the promotion and strengthening of democracy, human rights, hemispheric security and integral development," said Secretary General Almagro.

For his part, Ambassador Belli said his country will continue working to achieve a democratic, prosperous and stable region. "The values enshrined in the OAS, in the Charter and in the other instruments are also part of Brazil's international identity. We believe in multilateralism as a privileged space to face the challenges of our time," added the Brazilian diplomat.

Ambassador Belli has developed his diplomatic activity in the Brazilian embassies in Algiers, Buenos Aires and Washington, in the Mission to the UN and the Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago, among other positions.
