OAS Secretary General Met with the National Security Commissioner of Mexico

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today met with the National Security Commissioner of Mexico, Manuel Mondragón y Kalb, within the framework of the Fourth Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Public Security (MISPA IV) taking place in Medellin, Colombia.

Secretary General Insulza and Commissioner Mondragón y Kalb discussed the challenges facing the region in terms of public security, in particular those associated with transnational organized crime and drug trafficking. The OAS Secretary General highlighted the role played by Mexico in the Inter-American System on security policies, and recalled that both the meeting where the Declaration on Security in the Americas was adopted and the first MISPA were held in the Mexican capital.

Also present at the meeting were the Secretary for Multidimensional Security of the OAS, Adam Blackwell, and the National Commissioner of the Federal Police of Mexico, Minister Enrique Galindo Cevallos.
