The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today met with the Director General of the Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development of Canada, Henri-Paul Normandin, at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC.

Secretary General Insulza and Director General Normandin discussed the regional political situation, the different groups of alliances in the Hemisphere, the Inter-American System and the next General Assembly of the OAS that will be held in Paraguay in the first week of June.

The OAS Secretary General received the Canadian delegation with his Chief of Staff, Hugo de Zela, while Director General Normandin attended the meeting accompanied by the Permanent Representative of Canada to the OAS, Allan Culham, and Alternate Representative Jennifer May Alice Loten.
