New Representative of Guatemala presented his credentials to the OAS Secretary General

The new Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the Organization of American States (OAS), Gabriel Aguilera Peralta, today presented his credentials to the Secretary General of the institution, Luis Almagro.

In his speech, Ambassador Aguilera said that "the four pillars of the OAS largely reflect what have been the aspirations, struggles and achievements of the people of Guatemala in its recent history." He also expressed his firm commitment "to support and contribute to the values, principles and programs of the OAS in a common effort that aims to ensure a better future for all the peoples of the Americas."

For his part, Secretary General Almagro welcomed the representative of the government of President Jimmy Morales and reiterated the commitment of the OAS to assist in finding a solution to the territorial dispute between Guatemala and Belize. " Your work will be greatly appreciated and the importance of Guatemala is recognized by everyone- your transition here will be an easy one. We welcome you and offer our thanks to Guatemala for sending a diplomat of your quality as permanent representative,” said the Secretary General.
