The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today participated in the World Economic Forum on Latin America 2011, where he spoke about the principal challenges facing the continent in the next decade, and recalled the role the hemispheric institution plays as “the only organization that has the legal tools to support the countries of the region, such as for example in electoral matters.”

The head of the OAS was part of the panel titled, “Latin America’s Role in the Global Governance System,” alongside the Ibero-American Secretary General, Enrique Iglesias; the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota; the Chief Executive Officer of WPP and co-chair of the World Economic Forum, Sir Martin Sorrell; and Moisés Naím, who is Senior Associate of International Economics at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and the panel’s moderator. The Forum is being held in Rio de Janeiro from April 27 to 29, 2011.
