OAS Secretary General Meets with U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Jose Miguel Insulza, today met with the United States Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, Francisco Sánchez, who participated in the Private Sector Forum Dialogue, "Connecting Companies, Connecting People in the Americas" which took place at the hemispheric organization's headquarters.

At the meeting, both officials discussed the economic situation currently faced by the Hemisphere and they agreed on the importance of "Latin America for the United States economy," as expressed by the head of the OAS.

They also discussed issues to be addressed at the Sixth Summit of the Americas, to be held in April in Cartagena de Indias. Secretary General Insulza and Under Secretary Sánchez agreed that the meeting in Colombia will be the ideal setting to focus and identify the issues of concern to the countries of the Americas, also in matters related to trade.

The Secretary for External Relations of the OAS, Ambassador Alfonso Quiñonez, and the Executive Secretary for Integral Development of the Hemispheric Organization, Jorge Saggiante, were also present at the meeting.
