Lieutenant General Guy Thibault, Chairman of the Council of Delegates of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB), today addressed the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) in commemoration of the institution’s 70th Anniversary.
Lt. Gral Thibault celebrated the IADB’s “70 years of services in support of hemispheric peace, stability and security, in accordance with the principles outlined in the OAS Charter.” “We should be very proud of the evolution and progress we have seen across the Americas and the professionalization of the armed forces operating under civilian control and leadership within democratically elected governments,” he added.
The Canadian officer commented on the IADB’s history and disserted on the future of the body belonging to the OAS. “While I think it’s important to reflect on the past, I think it’s critical that this venerable institution continues to evolve, in keeping with our changing environment in order to stand ready to respond and to help our nations in the OAS in confronting the security and defense challenges that we face today and in the future,” he said.
