Albert Ramdin, Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States met with organizations and leaders of indigenous groups from much of Latin America in the Fourth Indigenous Forum taking place within the framework of the Sixth Summit of the Americas in Cartegena, Colombia.

In the meeting of representatives of indigenous groups of the hemisphere, Albert Ramdin reiterated the efforts being made by the organization “to generate bonds of trust between indigenous groups, society in general and governments, in addition to contributing to better understanding and promotion of the rights of indigenous people recognized in the Inter-American system.

The Assistant Secretary General of the OAS emphasized the importance of “taking up again the central ideas of the Summits and adapting them to the situation of the indigenous peoples,” and insisted that “the discussion about the Declaration of the OAS should respect the diversity of our hemisphere but above all implement in the best way the respect of the dignity of our indigenous peoples.”
