OAS Secretary General Meets with Minister of Justice and Public Security of El Salvador

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with David Munguía Payés, Minister of Justice and Public Security of El Salvador, during his visit to the country, where he has expressed his support for the process begun by the Catholic Church and civil society that aims to end gang violence.

The chief representative of the OAS and Minister Munguía Payés discussed the important progress made to this point in the process led by the military bishop, Monsignor Fabio Colindres, which has reduced significantly the number of violent deaths in the country.

Secretary General Insulza reiterated in the meeting with the Minister of Justice and Public Security the support of the organization for this exemplary initiative in the hemisphere, highlighted the role of Monsignor Colindres, stressed the will to reach an agreement shown by the parties involved and the decision of the government to facilitate the process.
