The Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the Organization of American States (OAS), Rita Claverie Díaz today assumed the Chair of the Permanent Council of the Organization, which is held on a rotating basis every three months.

Guatemala will also hold the chair of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI), a situation which occurs only once every 24 years. "Guatemala welcomes this happy coincidence as a fortunate opportunity to strengthen the links and strategic coordination between the different organs of this Organization and in particular between both Councils," said Ambassador Claverie Díaz.

For his part, the outgoing Chair and Permanent Representative of Grenada, Yolande Smith, highlighted that "We achieved a lot, and there´s a lot more that we can do to foster development, transparency, accountability, stability, peace and prosperity for the region."

The Permanent Representative of Brazil, Fernando Simas Magalhães, will serve as Vice Chair of the Council for the next trimester.
