The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Ministry of Culture and Heritage of Ecuador today signed an agreement to develop, promote and protect cultural heritage through innovation and new technologies.
At the signing of the agreement, the Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the OAS, Carlos Alberto Játiva, served as honorary witness, and recalled his country's leadership on issues of transparency, public participation and efficiency in the promotion of culture. "I am convinced that culture is a central element of integral development, and as such we must seek to adopt processes that promote the safeguarding of invaluable resources such as the cultural heritage of our countries." He also explained that as part of the agreement, “hackathons” on culture and heritage, seminars on digital inclusion and innovation and strategies for the promotion of the Orange Economy will be held.
For her part, the OAS Executive Secretary for Integral Development, Kim Osborne, explained that Ecuador's initiative is preceded by an experience carried out between the OAS and Peru on Innovation and Digital Inclusion for Cultural Heritage that promotes the empowerment of citizens through information and communication technologies (ICT) as well as citizen participation in the education, protection, dissemination, awareness and strengthening of the country's cultural identity. “The signing of this agreement by Ecuador is a sign of this country's commitment to make future generations value their heritage and is part of other activities that we will be carrying out with Ecuador and that seek to highlight the contribution of culture to economic development, competitiveness and economic growth,” she added.
