Peru to Host XXIV Meeting of the Permanent Consultative Committee of CITEL

The Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) of the Organization of American States (OAS) will hold, from April 29 to May 2, 2014, the XXIV Meeting of the Permanent Consultative Committee I: Telecommunications/Information and Communication (CCP. I) in Lima, Peru, which will include the participation of the governments of OAS member states as well as representatives from the private sector, international telecommunications organizations and civil society.
The topics that will be part of the agenda of the meeting include: the protection of users rights, Internet governance, control of fraud and non-compliance practices in telecommunications and information and communication technologies (ICT) , cyber security and vulnerability assessment, ICTs and their contribution to social inclusion, the use of telecommunications in disaster prevention and mitigation, environmental and climate change, and network infrastructure, interconnectivity and interoperability .
The meeting seeks to contribute to the discussion of the main issues related to telecommunications / ICT in the region , and to help improve democracy, human rights, security, as well as integral and sustainable development in the region.
The meeting is organized by the CITEL with the support of the Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications of Peru (OSIPTEL) .
