Group of Experts in Demand Reduction of the CICAD of the OAS Meets in Washington

The fifteenth meeting of the Group of Experts in Demand Reduction of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Commission (CICAD) of the Organization of American States (OAS) will be held in Washington, DC from May 14 to 16, chaired by the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (SENAD) in representation of the Government of Brasil.
During the three-day meeting, experts from more than 20 member states of the OAS will analyze the issue of early detection of drug use. Experts and representatives of international institutions in the issue, such as the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) and Harvard University will make presentations on the subject in order to debate and come to consensus on applicable general positions for the member states.
The event will also include addresses on best practices at the national level from several representatives of the attending countries. In addition, the discussions will be carried forward through working groups that will set the basis for the production of training documents and manuals that will be offered to the member states, in order to strengthen the human and institutional capacities in approaching the drug problem from a public health perspective.
