Meeting of Consultation of the States Parties to the Inter-American Convention against Terrorism
September 9, 2022
On September 12, the Meeting of Consultation of the State Parties to the Inter-American Convention against Terrorism will be held virtually. It will be the first time, since the signing of the treaty 20 years ago, that the States Parties and the signatory States come together in a meeting to reflect on the importance of the Convention, the path traveled and future challenges.
The Inter-American Convention against Terrorism was signed during the 32nd General Assembly of the OAS held in Barbados on June 3, 2002. The member states of the OAS then formed one of the first groups of countries to adopt a common anti-terrorism policy at the regional level.
Currently, 24 OAS member states have ratified the Convention and 10 countries remain signatory states.
The meeting, organized by the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE), will be attended by high-level authorities from the States Parties and signatories, as well as specialists in multidimensional security, prevention and countering terrorism.
The meeting will be broadcast live - with interpretation in Spanish, English, French and Portuguese- on the OAS Website and the OAS Facebook page.
