OAS extends call for submissions of representatives for the Working Group that will follow up on the implementation of the American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
September 20, 2023
The Organization of American States (OAS), through its Secretariat for Access to Rights and Equity (SARE), announces a call for legitimate organizations of Indigenous Peoples to present their candidacies for titular and alternate representatives for the Working Group for the implementation of the American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (ADRIP).
The Working Group will be the forum to analyze and monitor the hemispheric progress registered in the implementation of the DADIN; propose spaces for cooperation to exchange experiences among the OAS member states for the fulfillment of their tasks, among others.
In accordance with the Consensus Document of the First Inter-American Meeting on the Implementation of the ADRIP, the Working Group will be made up of eight 8 principal members (4 experts designated by the States that joined the ADRIP consensus and 4 Representatives of the Indigenous Peoples) and 8 alternate members (4 experts designated by the States that joined the DADIN consensus and 4 representatives of the Indigenous Peoples).
The selection of principal and alternate Indigenous Peoples' representatives to integrate the Working Group will be carried out by the President of the OAS Permanent Council, considering criteria such as geographic and cultural representation, gender equality, intergenerational representation, and affiliation with Indigenous Peoples.
