OAS Organizes Workshop on the Implementation of Drug Treatment Courts

The Organization of American States (OAS), through its Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), will organize, from Friday, July 12 to Tuesday, July 16, a workshop on the implementation of drug treatment courts at the headquarters of the hemispheric Organization in Washington, DC.

The workshop will bring together judges, attorneys general, defense lawyers, treatment providers, probation officers and other professionals from the member states to take part in discussion sessions, theoretical and practical training, and a visit to a drug court. The participants in the workshop from Argentina, Peru, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Colombia will also be able to exchange experiences with their counterparts in the United States thanks to a strategic alliance with the National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP).

The opening ceremony for the workshop will take place Friday, July 12 at 09:00 EDT (13:00 GMT) in the Padilha Vidal Room of the GSB Building of the OAS, and will feature opening remarks from the Secretary General of the Organization, José Miguel Insulza; the Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs of the U.S. State Department, William Brownfield; and the Permanent Representative of Canada to the OAS, Allan Culham.

The Workshop will be broadcast live on the OAS Website.
