OAS and IDB Co-Organize Regional Workshop on Cyber Security Policies

  October 21, 2014

The Organization of American States (OAS), together with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), will co-organize the Regional Workshop on Cyber Security Policies, from October 22 to 24 at the headquarters of the IDB in Washington DC.

The event brings together high level officials responsible for national cyber security policies from across the region to promote the exchange of experiences and technical understanding on the issue and to define the elements of a cyber security agenda for the region. Among the participants are governmental experts, academics, and private sector representatives.

The Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, Albert Ramdin, will take part in the inauguration of the workshop together with the President of the IDB, Luis Alberto Moreno and the Special Advisor for Cyber Security in the Department of Public Safety of Canada, Robert Gordon. The inauguration, Wednesday October 22 at 9:00 EDT (13:00 GMT) will be open to the press. Following the opening, discussion panels will debate the importance of cyber security; the key elements to a solid cyber security policy; the important actors on the issue; the management of cyber security emergencies; lessons learned in the design of cyber strategies; and multiple foci in such strategies.

Within the framework of the Workshop, the OAS will host, on Friday, October 24, the SEGURINFO Congress, in the Hall of the Americas of the OAS, which will bring together representatives of governments and the private sector with cyber security actors from civil society. The closing remarks of SEGURINFO will be delivered by the Secretary for Multidimensional Security of the OAS, Adam Blackwell.
