OAS Observation Mission Begins Final Deployment to El Salvador for Legislative and Municipal Elections

The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS/EOM) to the legislative and municipal elections in El Salvador began its final deployment in the Central American country to observe the development of the electoral process and voting on March 4.

The Uruguayan diplomat Juan Pablo Corlazzoli will arrive tomorrow in San Salvador to head a team of 28 observers and experts from 18 countries that will carry out a substantial analysis regarding electoral organization and technology, campaign financing, electoral justice and the political participation of women.

The Chief of Mission traveled to El Salvador on a preliminary visit at the end of January to learn about the preparations for the electoral process and to meet electoral and governmental authorities, political parties, candidates and civil society organizations. In addition, the Mission observed the simulation on February 18 and will be present in Sunday´s test.

This will be the 15th election the OAS observes in El Salvador.
