The OAS has discussed for several years the real estate issue, the funding required for maintenance and repairs, as well as the deferred maintenance of its historic buildings. OAS General Secretariat to Participate in the Cities Summit of the Americas

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) will participate in the Cities Summit of the Americas, to be held in Denver, Colorado, from April 26 to 27, 2023.
The delegation will include representatives of the Department of Effective Public Management (DEPM) of the Secretariat for Hemispheric Affairs (SHA) and the Department of Social Inclusion (DSI) of the Secretariat for Access to Rights and Equity (SARE).
During the event, the DEPM will present the thematic session: "Digital tools for improving cities’ revenue and public service delivery,” which corresponds to the digital transformation pillar of the Cities Summit and is aimed at exchanging experiences between local administrations about how the implementation of digital tools in cadastre and property registration contribute to increasing the income of cities and strengthens efficient, inclusive and transparent local public management.

On the other hand, the DSI is organizing the thematic session: "The Role of Local Governments in the Reception and Integration of Migrants and Refugees in Cities Across the Americas,“ together with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). This session will highlight the development of various initiatives in the Americas that focus on the intersection of local governance and the reception, protection and integration of people on the move. Additionally, the findings and conclusions of the report "Reception and integration of migrants and refugees in the cities of the Americas" will be presented, prepared by these four organizations, together with ILDA, the Toronto Metropolitan University and MG Group, with the support of the Governments of the United States, Canada and Sweden.

The first Cities Summit of the Americas (CSOA) is a United States government-led effort to convene city, regional, and state leaders from across the Western Hemisphere to focus on sharing challenges and opportunities together with various stakeholders from the private sector, civil society and youth.
The Summit is organized by the City of Denver, State of Colorado, and "Biennal of the Americas" who will host this first Cities Summit in partnership with the United States government, through the Department of State.
