OAS Awards Most Innovative Cities in Public Management in 2021 and 2022 at Cities Summit of the Americas

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) today presented, within the framework of the Cities Summit of the Americas in Denver, USA, the prizes for the ninth and tenth editions of Inter-American Award on Innovation for Effective Public Management (PIGEP) to the cities attending the Summit and that had been awarded in 2021 and 2022.

The objective of the PIGEP award, which is awarded by the OAS Department for Effective Public Management, is to recognize, encourage, and promote innovations in public management with the purpose of fostering and contributing to a greater culture of transparency, effectiveness, inclusion, and incorporation. suitable mechanisms for citizen participation in the public administrations of the Americas.

The winning innovative experiences of the 9th edition of the award were chosen in competitive processes among 58 applications from 9 countries, while the experiences of the 10th edition of the award were chosen among 48 applications from 9 countries.

The following prizes were awarded:

1. Mayor's office of the City of Bogota, Colombia.
Receiving: Mayor Claudia Lopez.
Category: Innovation in the Use of Evidence from the Behavioral Sciences, 2022:
Honorable Mention for the Innovative Experience "Integrity Path".

2. Mayor's office of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Receiving: Fernando Straface, Secretary General and International Relations.
Innovation in Open Government Category, 2021:
Winner for the Innovative Experience "Commitments".
Innovation in Open Government Category, 2022:
Winner for the Innovative Experience "BA Obras."

3. Mayor's office of the City of São Paulo, Brazil.
Receiving: Marcos Gadelho, Municipal Secretary of Urban Planning and Licenses.
Innovation in the Use of Evidence from Behavioral Sciences Category, PIGEP 2022:
Winner for the Innovative Experience “How to increase the payment of tax arrears? Debts of urban property and land tax (IPTU) in installments.”

4. Mayor's office Mexico City.
Receiving: Diana Alarcón González, General Coordinator of Advisors and International Affairs.
Innovation Category in the Promotion of the Gender Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Approach, PIGEP 2022:
Winner for the Innovative Experience "Police Development Plan with a Gender Perspective."

5. Mayor's Office of the City of Medellín, Colombia
Receiving: Juan Pablo Molina Arrubla, Leader, Secretary of Supplies and Services.
Innovation in Open Government Category, PIGEP 2022:
Honorable Mention for the Innovative Experience "School of Suppliers"
Innovation in Social Inclusion Category:
Honorable Mention for the Innovative Experience "Being Capable at Home".
