JAPAN PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR THE OAS SPECIAL MISSION IN HAITI

Organization of American States (OAS) Assistant Secretary General Luigi R. Einaudi announced today that the Government of Japan has agreed to support the work of the 806 and 822.

According to the Assistant Secretary General, a Japanese grant of US$93,742 to two non-governmental organizations- the National Coalition for Haitian Rights (NCHR) and the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI)- will support training seminars on human rights and on democracy and civic education in Haiti. These two projects were recommended to the Government of Japan by the OAS Special Mission as consistent with and sharing the overall objectives of the mission in the areas of human rights, justice and governance.


The contribution of the Government of Japan brings to 22 the number of countries and entities that provide direct or indirect financial support to the work of the Special Mission.
