Statement of the OAS Secretary General on the Malvinas

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today reiterated his well-established and unconditional support for a peaceful resolution to the demand by Argentina for sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands, expressed unanimously by the General Assembly of the OAS, following comments made on the subject by the former President of Cuba, Fidel Castro.

Insulza recalled that the OAS has maintained a consistent position with respect to the need for the countries involved to begin negotiations over the dispute.
