OAS LAUNCHES SELECTION PROCESS
FOR AVAILABLE SCHOLARSHIPS IN MEMBER STATES
August 8, 2007
The Organization of American States (OAS) will award some 200 academic scholarships throughout the region, paving the way for students in the member states to pursue new opportunities for training and higher education. The hemispheric body has announced the official start of its selection process for candidates pursuing scholarships for undergraduate, Master’s or Doctoral degrees, as well as for doctoral or postgraduate research.
The OAS Scholarship Program is intended to support the study and training of outstanding individuals from the countries of the Americas, in order to fortify the disciplines and institutions most important to building a strong future for the region.
OAS Assistant Secretary General Albert R. Ramdin recently hailed the program as “an invaluable facilitator for education and capacity building.”
“The future of our economies and the future of our democracies are closely linked to our ability to adequately educate this and future generations. The OAS, through its scholarship and other programs, plays a critical role in shaping the future of this region,” he added.
During this cycle, undergraduate academic scholarships will only be offered to candidates in the English-speaking Caribbean member countries, and the postgraduate scholarships will be available in all of the OAS member States.
This program is one of the most competitive and largest in the Americas and one which is known for its academic excellence. It is administered by the Department of Human Development in the form of academic, technical studies and professional development scholarships. Applicants are encouraged to review the eligibility requirements and procedures posted at the OAS website: www.educoas.org/portal.
