OAS TO PRESENT STUDY ON BIOFUELS MARKET DEVELOPMENT IN EL SALVADOR
July 10, 2009
The Department of Sustainable Development (DSD) of the Organization of American States (OAS) will present the results of a study on biofuels in El Salvador on July 14th, 2009 at the Sheraton President Hotel in San Salvador.
The study aims at increasing the basic knowledge on the mixing and transport logistics, warehousing and distribution of ethanol in order to promote the production and consumption of biofuels in the Central American country. This activity takes place at a key moment in which El Salvador is considering launching a new legislative framework and policy on the matter. The study was conducted under the context of the Bilateral Agreement on Biofuels held between the United States and Brazil. Through this Bilateral Agreement both countries have provided technical and political cooperation to the Government of El Salvador for the development of the study.
One day before the presentation of the study, the OAS will conduct an introductory training session for the use of Bioenergy Assessment Tool (BEET), as well as a training session on ethanol where its use and impacts will be analyzed. BEET is an application that facilitates the analysis and evaluation of impacts arising from the policies and strategies for ethanol in El Salvador. Both training sessions will be held on July 13, 2009 at the Sheraton President Hotel in San Salvador.
At the end of the events Hector Dada, Minister of Economy of El Salvador; Robert Blau, Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in El Salvador; Pedro Henrique E. Magalhaes, Minister Counselor of the Brazilian Embassy in El Salvador; and Francisco Burgos, Specialist in Energy and Sustainable Development of the OAS, will be available for interviews.
