OAS Assistant Secretary General Calls for More Action and Recognition for Youth in the Americas
July 23, 2010
The Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Albert Ramdin, met today with the Secretary General of the Ibero-American Youth Organization (OIJ), Eugenio Ravinet, at OAS headquarters in Washington, DC, and said the problems facing youth in the Americas need to be given more attention.
At the meeting, both organizations agreed to work together on issues related to youth employment, entrepreneurship and information exchange. “In my view it is of critical importance to strengthen capacities at the national and regional levels to address the challenges facing youth in the Americas. In this regard I am pleased to see that the OAS and the OIJ are expanding their collaboration,” Ramdin said.
Ambassador Ramdin also urged more intensive collaboration among youth organizations in the Americas, especially between the OIJ and the Young Americas Business Trust to work together to provide training and create opportunities for employment.
Both the OIJ and the OAS will use the World Youth Conference, to be held from August 25 to 27, 2010, in Mexico, to advocate for the needs of youth in the Americas and to call for more political attention from governments to facilitate more inclusive policies and create better economic opportunities.
