Secretary for Multidimensional Security Visits El Salvador

The Secretary for Multidimensional Security of the Organization of American States (OAS), Adam Blackwell, is visiting El Salvador from September 25 to 27, a trip on which he will attend meetings and events related to the peace process and the strengthening of public security in the country.

During his visit, the high-level representative of the Inter-American organization will attend the First Meeting of the Technical Coordinating Committee in support of the peace process in El Salvador, in which negotiators, civil society representatives and members of the Humanitarian Commission will take part.

The schedule of activities also includes an Arms Destruction Ceremony for weapons that were surrendered last July, and visits to rehabilitation and reintegration programs, including the Music and Concert programs for young female prisoners at the Ilopango Center and the "Metamorphosis" project in the "Apanteos" prison in Santa Ana, where ex-convicts and former gang members work in the manufacture of shoes.

Other key activities will include meetings with potential donors to fund a prisons initiative in El Salvador and meetings with representatives of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), as well as officials from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security and leaders of El Salvador.
