Observatories System of Criminal Justice
MACCIH Observatories
About the Observatories System of Criminal Justice
The experience of the OAS in the creation of observatories on the continent is not new. The Observatory of Public Safety and the Inter-American Observatory on Drugs, for example, expressed from the Organization the importance of these information centers and thematic dissemination in building policies, and be informative mechanisms to meet the contexts and situations that generate public interest and serve both as communication windows with civil society.

In the case of MACCIH, it has been planned to have an Observatory System of Criminal Justice, which will be installed in various parts of the country and will have active participation of civil society. With various social actors working on the issues of human rights, justice and corruption, we define the shape, form, structure and types of information about how justice is administered in criminal matters in the country.
These observatories will serve to better understand how justice operates and how impact-cases are tracked, including corruption cases and human rights violations, with the goal to reduce impunity in the country. To generate a mechanism of justice accountability towards the civil society.
Also, we will seek to complement important efforts of the Observatory of Violence and the Observatory of Criminal Justice at the National Autonomous University of Honduras and the University Institute for Democracy, Peace and Security (IUDPAS). Similarly, we will empower the generation of synergies with other collection and information management efforts that allows for reflection and analysis of criminal justice in the country.
MACCIH-Observatories will be coordinated by the international expert Marta Pacchiotti and will feature a multidisciplinary team of experts who will provide support for the design, construction, content and access, according to the policies of information and feedback that the Honduran civil society considers.
The Observatories System will periodically disclose the status of justice in the country, based on data and indicators that it will manage.
Civil Society Organizations
The MACCIH constantly receives requests to link Civil Society Organizations in the activities of the Mission. If you are interested in requesting that your organization/association is registered to be involved with the MACCIH process, please contact the Mission, through the OAS Contact Center.
