BALANCE OF PROGRESS IN PROMOTING THE INCLUSION OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN THE AMERICAS 

The Organization of American States (OAS) through its Department of Social Inclusion (DIS), and the Inter-American Committee for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (CEDDIS), are pleased to invite you to the Panel Discussion “25th Anniversary Of The Adoption Of The Inter-American Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (CIADDIS): Balance of progress in promoting the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the Americas” on the occasion of the celebration of the 17th Conference of the States Parties to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

This event aims to provide an opportunity to reflect on progress made, lessons learned in the past 25 years, and to promote equity and full participation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society and development.

A panel of high-level experts will share current initiatives at regional level aimed at eliminating barriers to the inclusion of persons with disabilities.

Issues to be addressed:

  • Synergies between the Committee for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (CEDDIS) and the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
  • Handbook on supports and safeguards for the full exercise of legal capacity by persons with disabilities. 
  • Indicators to measure the progress of the region for the full inclusion of people with disabilities. 
  • Regional Observatory of Persons with Disabilities
