OAS Electoral Observation Mission: 2024 Presidential, Senatorial and Provincial Elections in the Dominican Republic

The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) for the presidential, senatorial and provincial elections in the Dominican Republic, headed by the former President of Chile Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle, began its deployment in the country on May 9th for the elections on Sunday, May 19th.

The OAS Mission made up of 81 experts and observers from 19 countries analyzed issues related electoral organization, electoral technology, voting abroad, electoral violence, electoral justice, political-electoral financing, political participation of women, campaigns, media and digital communication.

During its work in the country, the Mission met with government representatives, electoral authorities, leaders and candidates and representatives of civil society and academia, as well as members of the international community to learn about the ongoing electoral process. On election day, the Mission was present in 23 provinces in the country, the National District, and three cities abroad: New York and Washington, D.C., in the United States; and San José, Costa Rica.

This was the twenty-second (22) time that the OAS has sent an electoral mission to the Dominican Republic, and it was possible thanks to the financial contributions of Brazil, Canada, Korea, the United States, Spain, France, Italy, and the Netherlands.
