A Chat with the OAS: VII Inter-American Week for Indigenous Peoples

Topic : Lessons learned from Indigenous Peoples to protect the environment and limit the impact of climate change.

Panelists: Arif Bulkan and Francisco Cali Tzay, IACHR and UN Rapporteurs on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

Background: The first major hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season has already wreaked havoc in the hemisphere, especially in the Caribbean region. It is therefore timely to have a discussion on lessons learned from our hemisphere’s indigenous communities, who for centuries have lived in such a way, as to honor and respect mother nature.
