Ransomware Task Force (RTF) Conference in Brazil

The Ransomware Task Force (RTF) methodology brings together experts from industry, government, law enforcement, civil society, academia and the technical community, and international organizations to identify priority actions to conduct a unified, aggressive, comprehensive, public-private anti-ransomware effort. The goal is to produce practical recommendations that have a high impact to reduce the threat to social and economic well-being and national security posed by ransomware.

The Organization of American States (OAS)/Institute for Security and Technology (IST), in collaboration with the government of Brazil will convene an in-person conference with national stakeholders to discuss high priority actions to address ransomware in Brazil. The in-person meeting will consist of a series of breakout focus group conversations organized around the four goals of the RTF and will intentionally be cross-sector and multistakeholder. For each of the pillars, the co-chairs will lead with assistance provided by staff from the OAS and IST. The goal of the in-person Ransomware Task force Conference is to serve as a starting point for the draft of the Brazil Ransomware Task Force Report.

The RTF process focuses around four main pillars to combat ransomware:

  1. Deter ransomware attacks;
  2. Disrupt the ransomware business model;
  3. Help organizations prepare; and,
  4. Respond to ransomware attacks more effectively

This project will bring about change within the host country by allowing the government, civil society and private industry to reach a consensus about the most critical priorities for action to disrupt ransomware threats in Brazil. As a result, the Brazil RTF report will provide actionable recommendations that are tailored to the Brazilian national context. Finally, this will lead to a more resilient cybersecurity ecosystem and reduce the threat that ransomware poses.
