Launch of the Hemispheric Program on Strengthening Democratic Principles through Education and Policy Dialogue

The Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI) of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Inter-American Committee on Education (CIE) are pleased to announce the virtual launch of the Hemispheric Program: “Democratic Principles Strengthened through Education and Policy Dialogue.”

This initiative, part of the CIE Work Plan 2022-2025, is designed to enhance institutional and human resource capacities across the Americas, creating an environment that nurtures the development of "skills for better citizenship." The program aligns with the Inter-American Democratic Charter, which emphasizes education as a key tool for fostering active and informed democratic participation.

Speakers:

• Ambassador Elizabeth Darius-Clarke, Permanent Representative of Saint Lucia to the OAS and Chair of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI)

• Ambassador Francisco O. Mora, Permanent Representative of the United States to the OAS

• Kim Osborne, Executive Secretary for Integral Development (SEDI)

• Guillermo Esteban Jensen, National Director of Cooperation - Secretariat of Education of Argentina & Chair of the Interamerican Committee on Education (CIE)

• Jesús Schucry Giacoman Zapata, Director-Department of Human Development, Education and Employment (SEDI-DHDEE)

This event will present the program’s structure, goals, and the planned actions for its first year of implementation. The initiative builds on the extensive experience and best practices from other regional and hemispheric efforts, including the OAS’s Inter-American Teacher Education Network (ITEN).
