The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) for the General Elections in Antigua and Barbuda, headed by former Prime Minister of Jamaica, Bruce Golding, began its deployment in the country on January 12th for the elections on Wednesday January 18th.

The OAS Mission made up of 11 experts and observers from 7 countries analyzed issues including electoral organization and registries, electoral technology, electoral justice, political finance, and the political participation of women.

During its work in the country, the Mission met with government officials, electoral authorities, political leaders and candidates, representatives of civil society and other relevant stakeholders to learn about the ongoing electoral process. On election day, the team visited the 17 constituencies of Antigua and Barbuda, observing the process from the opening of polling stations, through to the tabulation of ballots and the transmission of results.

This was the fourth (4) time that the OAS has sent an electoral mission in Antigua and Barbuda, and it was possible thanks to the financial contributions of Brazil, Canada, Italy, Korea, The Netherlands, Peru, and United States.
