The Office of the OAS General Secretariat in Barbados was established in 1969. In absence of a resident representative currently Ambassador Yolande Y. Smith, coordinator at Headquarters, acts as representative.

The OAS Barbados Office serves as the crucial link between the Member State and the OAS, and actively promotes the organization's core principles and ideals, ensuring maximum visibility through strategic public diplomacy engagements.  

Over these 55 years the OAS has impacted Barbados a through the implementation of programs and projects under the main pillars of democracy, human rights, security, and development. 

This Office works under the Coordinating Office for the Offices of the General Secretariat in the Member States (COOGSMS). In absence of a formal representative, the duties  are performed by the Director of the COOGSMS, Amb. Yolande Yvonne Smith.
