  • Collects, generates, and makes available public security data, information and knowledge.
  • Identifies and standardizes indicators.
  • Develops tools and methodologies for the collection and visualization of data and information, including the Information System on Crimes Affecting Migrants in an Irregular Situation, the Knowledge Platform on Homicide, and the Knowledge Platform on Trafficking in Persons.
  • Conducts literature and resource reviews on topics of interest and makes the information available to stakeholders.
  • Coordinates the Inter-American Security Observatory and the implementation of the United Nations’ Study on Crime Trends and Operations of Criminal Justice Systems.
  • Provides assistance for the establishment, development and/or strengthening of crime observatories/analysis centers and information systems and promotes the technical training of professionals working with security-related data, statistics and indicators.
  • Promotes the strengthening of public security data, information and knowledge generation capacities, and creates instances for the exchange of experiences and know-how through the establishment of networks, communities, meetings, and publications, including the Inter-American Community on Emergency and Security Systems, the Community of Observatories and Crime Analysis Centers, and the Inter-American Community of Criminal Analysis.
  • Offers cross-cutting support to the other sections of the Department of Public Security, including its programs and projects.

The office works under the Department of Public Security.
