Washington, D.C. — The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) will hold its 185th Period of Sessions from October 24 to November 4, 2022. The Period of Sessions will take place in a hybrid format (both in-person and online), in compliance with the IACHR's mandate and functions and taking into account the public health situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the region.
The public hearings for the 185th Period of Sessions will be held from October 24 to 28, 2022. As of July 25, 2022, requests for hearings concerning all Member States of the Organization of American States (OAS) can be submitted through the online system in the organization's four official languages: Spanish, English, Portuguese, and French. The deadline for submitting requests is August 15, 2022, at 23:59 (EDT), Washington, DC, time.
Petitioners will be informed if their applications have been approved up to one month before the hearings, and the hearing schedule will be published on the IACHR website www.cidh.org up to ten days before the start of the Period of Sessions.
A principal, autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS), the IACHR derives its mandate from the OAS Charter and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Inter-American Commission has a mandate to promote respect for and to defend human rights in the region and acts as a consultative body to the OAS in this area. The Commission is composed of seven independent members who are elected in an individual capacity by the OAS General Assembly and who do not represent their countries of origin or residence.
