DATE AND PLACE OF THE SEVENTH MEETING OF MINISTERS OF JUSTICE OR
OF MINISTERS OR ATTORNEYS GENERAL OF THE AMERICAS (REMJA-VII)
(Adopted at the meeting held on January 30, 2008)
THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES,
HAVING SEEN the recommendation of the Sixth Meeting of Ministers of
Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA-VI)
to the General Assembly that REMJA-VII take place in 2008 and that the
OAS Permanent Council be charged with setting the date and site;
CONSIDERING:
That, in resolution AG/RES. 2266 (XXXVII-O/07) the General Assembly, in
response to the recommendation of REMJA-VI, convened the Seventh Meeting
of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the
Americas (REMJA-VII) and provided that it be held in 2008, within
resources assigned in the program-budget of the Organization and other
resources;
That the aforementioned resolution instructed the Permanent Council,
with technical support from the General Secretariat, to carry out the
preparatory work and set the date and place for the meeting; and
TAKING INTO ACCOUNT the note from the Permanent Mission of the United
States of America offering to host the Seventh Meeting of Ministers of
Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA-VII)
and proposing that it be held from April 28-30, 2008,
RESOLVES:
1. To accept the offer of the Government of the United States to host
the Seventh Meeting of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys
General of the Americas (REMJA-VII).
2. To set April 28, 29, and 30, 2008 as the dates for the Seventh
Meeting of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of
the Americas (REMJA-VII), and the city of Washington as the venue for
that Meeting.
3. To instruct that resources be allocated from subprogram 21C of the
2008 program-budget to finance REMJA-VII and its preparatory meetings.
