IACHR Releases Schedule of Public Hearings for 172 Period of Sessions to be held in Jamaica

Washington, D.C. - The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) publishes today the schedule of public hearings that will take place during its 172 Period of Sessions, to be held in Kingston, Jamaica, May 3 to 10, 2019. The hearings will take place May 8 to 10. The sessions and hearings will be held at the regional headquarters of the University of West Indies, in Kingston.

Pursuant to Article 68 of the IACHR’s Rules of Procedure, the hearings will be public. Anyone interested may attend freely without prior registration, subject only to space restrictions in the hearing room. The public hearings will livestream on the IACHR Website.

A principal, autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS), the IACHR derives its mandate from the OAS Charter and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Inter-American Commission has a mandate to promote respect for and to defend human rights in the region and acts as a consultative body to the OAS in this area. The Commission is composed of seven independent members who are elected in an individual capacity by the OAS General Assembly and who do not represent their countries of origin or residence.
