The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza expressed his recognition of the importance to Colombia of the March for Peace with Social Justice, Democracy and Defense of the Public, which aims to support the efforts of the government and people of Colombia for the pacification of the South American country.
The convocation of this march, made by several political and social sectors, is a valuable opportunity for Colombians to express their desire to live in a reconciled and peaceful country," said Insulza. Secretary General Insulza said, in his view, "this initiative assumes greater significance because it reinforces the feeling of the majority of society that wants to strengthen efforts for peace and represents, at the same time, a demonstration to the international community of the feelings of millions of Colombians who just want to end the conflict and live in harmony and without violence."
In this perspective, Insulza said that "the OAS reiterates its commitment to continue putting all the experience of the organization at the disposal of the Colombian society, as it has been done with the MAPP, to continue in the joint effort to build peace in that beloved country," concluded the Secretary General.
The OAS has been present in Colombia through the Mission to Support the Peace Process (MAPP/OAS) since 2004 in support of the peace policy of the government and Colombian society.
