OAS-SEDI: Forging New Partnerships for Development

OAS Partnership for Development Fund (FEMCIDI) to fund new programs in the area of tourism and cultureOAS-Haiti sign agreement to hold the 2014 Meeting of Ministers of Culture. The Government of Haiti signed an agreement with the organization to host the VI Inter-American Meeting of Ministers of Culture and Highest Appropriate Authorities on August 12 and 13, 2014. The ceremony took place at Organization’s headquarters with the participation of the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza; President of Haiti, Michel Martelly; Minister of Foreign Affairs of Haiti, Duly Brutus. The central theme chosen by the Government of Haiti for the meeting is “Cultural Interdependence in the Context of Globalization.”

OAS-Barbados sign agreement to hold the 2014 Meeting of Ministers of Tourism.OAS-Barbados sign agreement to hold the 2014 Meeting of Ministers of Tourism. The Government of Barbados signed an agreement with the organization to host the XXII Inter-American Congress of Ministers and High-Level Authorities of Tourism on September 3 and 4 in Bridgetown. The ceremony took place at Organization’s headquarters with the participation of the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, and the Minister of Tourism and International Transport of Barbados, Richard Sealy. The central theme chosen by the Government of Barbados for the meeting is “Tourism Competitiveness: An Essential Component of Sustainability.”

OAS Partnership for Development Fund (FEMCIDI) to fund new programs in the area of tourism and cultureOAS - SUAGM (Ana G. Méndez University System of Puerto Rico) to offer additional scholarship opportunities. Under the new agreement with the SUAGM, the OAS will offer 19 new scholarships at Master’s degree level in Puerto Rico in 2015. Scholarships covering 100% of the enrollment costs for students will be offered for programs such as business administration, human resources, accounting, development of virtual businesses, mechanical engineering, and environmental sciences, among others. Classes will be taught at any of SUAGM’s associated institutions, including Universidad Metropolitana, Universidad del Este, Universidad de Turabo, the Florida Campus, and the Virtual Campus

•	OAS-SEDI supports the regional competition: "Schools with a Sustainable Future" RallyOAS - Florida International University (FIU) sign scholarship agreement. FIU strengthens its relationship with the OAS with a new agreement to offer scholarships opportunities. The new five-year agreement will offer ten partial scholarships to doctoral students and an unlimited number of partial scholarships to undergraduate and master’s degree students in the Americas. This agreement is expected to expand the already robust connection the University has with Latin America and the Caribbean and support human development efforts in the region.

OAS-Mexico Announce 2014 Scholarship RecipientsOAS-Mexico Announce 2014 Scholarship Recipients. The OAS, the National Council on Science and Technology of Mexico (CONACYT) and the Mexican Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AMEXCID) announced the names of the recipients of 58 scholarships in Science and Technology for doctoral, Master’s, and specialized studies in Mexico. These new scholarships showcase the interlinked nature between human development and other development areas, such as science and technology, where Authorities have reaffirmed the need to “work to help increase the number of female and male graduates in science, technology, engineering, and technical education, and to improve study programs in these areas to respond to the changing needs of industry.” (See: Panama Action Plan 2012-2016) .
