The 20 public hearings of the 187th Period of Sessions will be held virtually from the 10th to the 14th of July. Accredited individuals and organizations requiring interpretation and closed captioning must sign up to attend the corresponding hearings via Zoom, links to which can be found in the calendar of hearings.

Meeting with Civil Society

On July 20 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm (EST) the IACHR will hold a meeting with civil society to receive information on the risks and structural affectations to democratic institutions in different countries of the region and proposals to address them. To participate, registration is required through the electronic form in Spanish and English until July 9, 2023, at 23:59 (Eastern Time in Washington, D.C.).

Organizations selected to participate in this meeting will receive all relevant information by e-mail. Those requiring Spanish/English or English/Spanish interpretation services should indicate this on the registration form.

The public hearings and meetings of the IACHR during the Periods of Sessions will be recorded in accordance with its rules of procedure. The IACHR will notify in a timely manner the details for the connection and security guidelines for the public hearings and the meeting with civil society to be held during the 187th session.

The IACHR is a principal and autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS), whose mandate stems from the OAS Charter and the American Convention on Human Rights. The Inter-American Commission has the mandate to promote the observance and defense of human rights in the region and acts as an advisory body to the OAS on the matter. The IACHR is made up of seven independent members who are elected by the OAS General Assembly in their personal capacity, and do not represent their countries of origin or residence.
